I used a felt covered board to cover the well where the amp and mp3 computer are hidden. Yes it needs ventilation. On regular driving days I don't have trouble but on an extended cruise I move the board forward a bit and it doesn't overheat. Someday I'll install everything neatly and maybe even do a plexiglass cover. But for now this works just fine. Darn you guys (in the miataforum)...I really didn't want to show anyone the sloppy install underneath!

I told you it was ugly! I'm only showing this in public under duress. ;-) a) is the mp3 computer--notice the nice cardboard case b) is where the hard drive goes when it's in the car c) is the wire that carries the X-10 RF remote control antenna into the cockpit behind the driver's seat. d) is the computer power supply

(cont from last pic) e) inverter partially hidden under felt f) relay to turn on computer power g) amp fuse h) trash I should'a picked up before taking this picture. Oh yeah that's a Pioneer 4 channel amp 50x2 and 120x1 bridged. One suggestion is a DC-DC power supply for the computer instead of what I used. My mp3 player was darned close to free because as a computer instructor, I only had to buy the X10 mouse remote and the inverter...the rest I had lying around! ;-)
