Product relocates the oil filter to an accessable location behind the right headlight

Pricey, but good quality. The filter replacement adaptor and remote adaptor are made from a solid piece of aluminum and anodized in black. Hoses consist of a brass fitting on one end and high-quality compression fittings on the other. The instructions were clear and detailed (with pictures). Installation was a snap (especially since I have a 99 and did not have to drill holes). The only complaint I have is that the remote filter unit is anchored down on only two of the four corners (closest to the interior of the engine compartment). Once the fittings are tightened, you need an extra set of hands to hold the unit while you loosen them or else you would bend those two bolts. Also, it was impossible to use my 7/8" wrench to tighten the fittings because it was too long. Thompson now sells a single 7/8" stubby wrench and I recommend getting that. I had to use an adjustable wrench and scratched up the pretty blue fittings. Four hours later, I had everything together,! started it up, and ... no leaks!

This is a pricey but high-quality product with terrific instructions. It also includes a fitting for an external oil temp sender, and they sell an inline fitting for an oil pressure sender. However, I don't feel too good about only having the remote filter unit secured only on one side. Perhaps I should have gone for a kit that mounts the filter on the firewall.

Kit relocates the oil filter to area behind right headlamp.

The Thompson kits are a great design, and the parts are very well made and finished. Well worth the price.

Tom Thompson was very nice and helpful when we where E-Mailing back and forth about applications. I got 3 kits, 1 for my 01' and 2 for my folks 5-speed and shiftless 03's. They were easy to install, with great instructions (with photos!) and all items required in the kit, even thread seal and extra O-rings. Once in, the kits look like they came from the factory. Oil changes now take only 15 min. and no sticking my head in the wheel well anymore!

Relocate the oil filter to an area behind the right headlight.

Have now had the unit on our 2003 Miata for 4000 miles, gone through one oil change & it is the greatest!

We talked with Tom Thompson several times to review our questions about the "Oil filter relocation kit" ie; options for different kits & installation procedures. We decided on the kit with high pressure black hose with anodized aluminium fittings. When the Kit arrived (3 days),I read the instructions which are very clear & with pictures, & installed the base unit on the area behind the right headlight. This also required drilling a hole in the fender pan for the second bolt. Once that was done I decided that my dealer is better equipped to work under the car, so off to the dealer for the scheduled oil change & installation of the rest of the kit. This unit is of superior quality & construction. Once installed it blends right in with the components in the engine compartment. We bought the kit to keep from having any spilled oil & it is a excellant time saver. For those who demand quality this is a great system!

Product is a kit to relocate the oil filter to an accessable site just behind the passenger side headlights. Installed on a 2003 Shinsen Version.

The kit was packaged well, was complete, and the instructions were excellent (complete with photos). I purchased the recommended "stubby" wrenches and was glad I did. I purchased the stainless steel hoses with red and blue fittings. It looks great. Installation took a good 3 hours, but I am certainly no mechanic.

There was a delay in shipping due to parts being back ordered, but only a week or so and I was in no hurry. Thompson e-mailed me and let me know so that was no problem. Quality product, well made, good directions, good service. Looking forwad rto easy oil changes on my 2003 Shinsen Version. See photos at www.miata.net , member rides , 2003 , "My New Shinsen" .

Oil filter relocation kit. Relocates the oil filter to the area just behind the passenger side headlight. The machined pieces of the kit are very well made and quite substantial feeling - definitely high quality stuff. I purchased the standard kit with the brass(?) hose-ends.

The product was shipped in a well packed box and came with great illustrated instructions. I was ready for the second oil change on my new '02, so I decided to install it the evening I received it. Installation was straightforward and I've had no problems or leaks. Everything needed for the install was in the kit, including an extra O-ring and a tube of permatex thread sealant.

Top-notch product - highly recommended if you want to cut down the oil-change time on your Miata. I also have a Fumoto valve installed on my car, so I should be able to do oil changes in about 15 minutes and without ramps. Having the filter relocated to behind the headlight also gives plenty of clearance for a larger filter, so I plan to start using the filter spec'd for the 2.5l V6 used in the 626 and Millenia (slightly longer but with the same base size).

This is a kit that relocates the very hard to reach oil filter to a much more accessable location in the engine compartment.

Very well designed, well made, and well finished. Clear step-by-step instructions with photo's and 'tips'.

The install was not difficult, but it was time consuming. Some of the workspace is tight, and it would have served me well to have a 1/2" and a 7/8" short-handled open-end wrenches. This is a quality product and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in making a modification of this nature. Customer Support is also excellent.
