A plexiglass windblocker, anchored by two rails, sits on the edge of the deck, and employs two winglets to block additional turbulence.

Tim Schmitt of Topdown.net was exceptional. I have contacted him about various little problems that I was experiencing with the windblocker, like the winglets did not align perfectly (he immediately sent me two more blank winglets, allowing me to set them the way I would like). Even before the windblocker arrived, I got an email from him saying that he forgot to include a christmas tree plug in the package, and that a separate envelope will arrive along with the windblocker. Eventually, I decided not to keep the Maximus, but Tim definately get the gold star award for outstanding service.

Top Down Wind Angel

I did extensive research on Windblockers and found the best comments on Miata.net from owner experience. I am very happy I went with this product and it works great with the top down. In fact, my Miata lives in the gargage (SoCal) with the top down and boot on 100% of the time, so I have had several months of experience with the product. With the windows up I can now have great stereo and mobile phone conversations with the other party actually hearing me! I highly recommend the product and the service level of the maker.

One item of note, I did not peel the protective backing off of the plexiglass properly and distorted the plastic when doing so. I recommend to be very careful when removing the protective backing. Since I ordered the smoke tint version it is not noticable so I did not return the product. Enjoy.

Top Down's "Wind Angel" with "winglets" a windblocker system that doesn't impede the seat postion - can go all the way back - or top. Top can be put up or down without removing product. Unique side "winglets" do need to be folded in to put the top up.

I researched thoroughly for a "windblocker" system. I needed one that DID NOT make me move the seat forward even one notch or recline the seat less. I wanted to be able to put the seat ALL THE WAY BACK. I also wanted MAXIMUM wind and noise reduction without it having to be removed to put the top up also I wanted a great VALUE. My guidelines resulted in the WIND ANGEL with thier unique "winglets" from TOPDOWN. There maybe some better looking products, like the one that looks like the windstopper on an Audi TT, but they are not NEARLY as effective and are more costly. This one is only $148, with the bronze tint to match my interior. The turbulence has been reduced drastically and so has the noise. NO system can reduce the wind entirelly, it IS a convertible after all. The side winglets eliminates that pesky side drafts that occur with all other systems.

I would highly recommend this if you are looking for the same thinsg I was looking for - NO reduction in seat movement, maximum turbulence reduction without having to remove it to put the top up AND at a great price. The Wind Angel is the CLEAR winner

Windblocker for Hard Dog Roll Bars. Clear Acrylic; smoike and copper tint also available. Storage bag also available.

I have the HDSDD bar mounted in my '99 and had been looking for a compatible windblocker for some time. Made of 1/4" acrylic and attached with nylon and velcro straps, it does not rattle at highway speeds and greatly reduces amount of backdraft wind. Wind noise reduced as well. Can remain mounted and top raised and lowered (although must get out of car; no longer can reach back from driver's seat)

In the mornings with top down , the windblocker with side windows up created a nice, wind free cocoon so we could enjoy the open cockpit with temps < 50 degrees. You can again hear the stereo and lack of wind roar makes long trips much less fatiguing. I'd highly recommend folks with Hard Dog bars consider this product. Tom Beroth ("Mr HardDog") is right to recommend you. Info available at www.topdown.net including windblockers for Miatas without Hard Dog bars. Clear acyrlic as well as smoke and copper. Owner, Tim Schmitt is very easy to deal with and sent samples of tinted material. Unless you've got the tools (router, saw) to make one yourself, this is a cost effective solution.

Windblocker with dual hinged wings to make pulling ragtop over easy.

It is one of the best piece of accessories I have bought for my 1999 Miata. I thoroughly enjoy driving down Pacific Coast without having my hair tossing around in wind turbulence. With the winged windblocker, I could hear a wider range of bass and high fidelity of the Bose system. But the big plus is that my wife now enjoys tagging along for an afternoon drive down the coast for a Martinee at La Brisas, Laguna Beach, CA.

Ingenius design coupled with attentive customer service, and at a dead give away price, I say every Miata owner would be dazzled by the incredible effectiveness of Topdown.net's windblocker. Already my Miata's buddies have become instant convert-babies.

An acrylic windblocker

I've used TopDown's product for the last 10 weeks.

Good product - very glad I got it. I had one of those windblockers that fit over the seats, but this didn't do it for me. My hair is down to mid-back, and it was still blowing around. TopDown's windblocker looked like the most effective and a good value, so I went with this one. Now, my hair doesn't blow around with the top down, which was my number one concern. Also, it was pretty easy to install.

A plexiglass windblocker

Good - glad I bought it.

I installed the Wind Angel on my car about 3 months ago. I had the factory unit, which is better than nothing, but I’m 6’2”, so if it’s not raining, then the top is down. The factory unit was good up to my shoulders, but still left my head exposed. This unit took about 5 minutes to install (another 10 minutes to remove the factory unit.) The installation itself was supper simple. The wind angel is a Plexiglas unit that sits behind the rear seats, and it looks pretty snazzy too. It’s a well-constructed product. The Wind Angel does not interfere with either the boot cover any of the seat positions, which is important to me. Finally, Tim was very helpful to me, following up to make sure that everything was alright and had gone as expected. Everything has, and it works great. I’m looking forward to trying this unit next winter went it’s cold outside, and I can drive around with the top down and the heat blasted on. www.topdown.net

A clear, plexiglass windblocker with winglets mounted on the rear deck.

I have used this product for about 6 weeks now.

I guess I'm one of the first ones to purchase TopDown's new "Wind Angel" styled windblocker. The company asked me to post my opinion of it on miata.net, so here goes! Overall, I'm very satisfied with the product. This is a clear pane of plexiglass mounted on the rear deck that prevents that annoying backdraft. Why I like the product: (1) Didn't interfere with my rollbar, (2) Didn't interfere with the seat positioning, (3) The winglets that extend out helped blocked an annoying side draft around the outside edge, (4) Can now go top down when it's 40 degrees outside, (5) Easier to talk on my cell phone, (6) My wife's long hair doesn't tangle, and (7) easy to install - did it in five minutes. So, overall, I'd definitely buy this product again. The only knock against it that I can think of is took about 10 days to get to me. I guess I've become spoiled by overnight shipping, but then again, if I wanted it quicker, I could have paid more and selected ! the rush option.

Large, clear Plexiglas windblocker (rigid type) with storage bag.

Installation was easy using ordinary hand tools (2 screwdrivers). No cutting or drilling is required. Compared to the soft, non-rigid type blocker I've used in the past, this provides better wind protection due to it's size. I found it to be the most protection against wind turbulence short of putting the top up. It can be easily removed, put in it's bag and stored in the trunk. But since the top can be raised and lowered with the blocker in place, I just leave it up all the time.

My wife used to complain when I lowered the top because she has big beautiful hair and it would whip around. Now it's calm in the cockpit while we enjoy "open air" motoring.

TopDown's windblocker with winglets

Overall, I’d rate this product as excellent – it has everything that I want. I noticed that there are a lot of good windblocker choices for the Miata, and I think this one is the best one now that I’ve been using it for a couple of months. I wanted a clear windblocker, because I wanted to be able to see out of the back clearly. I selected this windblocker because it has the largest body area for more coverage. Then, it also has these winglets (flaps) that fold out for more coverage. With the few other windblockers I’ve used or seen, there was also some turbulence still swirling inside the cockpit. This is the only windblocker I’ve seen that completely blocks all turbulence. Hence, I can talk on my cell phone, my wife’s long hair doesn’t blow around, and I can listen to all of my CDs clearly now. The installation itself was a breeze. There are no hole to drill, so I just had to attach the brackets and slip the windblocker in. Total time took about 5 minutes.

All-in-all, a great product. I think it’s one of the best investments I made for my Miata!
