The original Flyin' Miata Turbo System
big pictures and details

The Car: 1990 1.6 liter engine with 63K miles. Flyin' Miata (FM) Turbo System (including FM ECU replacement) @ 13psi. FM turbo exhaust, FM cat, intercooler water spray (not used because of Houston humidity), adjustable cams, GReddy Profec Boost Control. Nitrous oxide on during one run.

Comments by Pathak:
Nitrous off - Peak torque at 5500 rpm. Peak HP at 6200 rpm. 110 ft-lbs @ 3000 rpm. 175 ft-lbs at 4000 rpm. 193 ft-lbs at 5500 rpm.

Nitrous on - As soon as the nitrous oxide was switched on torque went from 105 ft-lbs at 2800 rpm to 200 ft-lbs by 3000 rpm (!!). 250 ft-lbs at 4000 rpm. 259 ft-lbs at 5000 rpm. HP peak at 6100 rpm. Really cool seeing the rear of car squat down as soon as the nitrous turned on. Very audible difference once the NOS was activated went from a Vroooom!! to a VROOOOM!!! A real kick in the pants (to say the least).

Comments by Hemphill:
Cardell is definitely the Miata Man! His car was the strongest car at the event (with nitrous oxide on) and also the strongest 1.6 liter car (nitrous oxide off) to be dynoed that day. He has been building and driving turbo Miatas about as long as there have been Miatas. His Flyin' Miata Turbo System is nearly bullet-proof and almost fool-proof.
