The stock canister muffler. Check out the restriction of the pipe going in! |

You can see the heat shields clearly in this shot. |

I soaked the cat bolts with WD-40 overnight. Helped, but not enough as it turned out. |

A peek inside the catalytic converter. I reused the metal gaskets. |
| 38064 |
Muffler hanger. I reused all the stock hanging points. If you go for the under the car spare tire, you probably won't use this driver's side hanger. |

Two Hooker mandrel bends from Summit Racing and some 2 1/2 inch piping from my local muffler shop. We used 1 and 1/2 bends and 2 feet of pipe total! |

The stock muffler out of the car. |

Cat end. |

I made four of the cuts with a hacksaw before my buddy Harry said, "Hey lets use the cut-off saw!" ARGH! ;-) |

This was the easy way! |

5 bucks for the flange. Measure, test fit, mark, tack weld. That's Harry's hand, not mine. |

MIG welding looks cool in this shot. |

We weren't planning on taking the cat out. Until we gunged up one set of threads...then sheared a stud getting it out!!! |
| 53036 |
Here's a real closeup of the cat. If you take it out, hold it up to the light and look through it. Amazing really. |

Nice threads! |

Bad picture...worse stud. It loosened easily...then seized even though it was lubed and wirebrushed. We heated it with a torch and used vice grips to take out the stud. Then retapped and put in new ones. |

Clamp and tack weld EVERYTHING. Don't weld it up 'till you finish it all. |

Tacking the muffler hangers. |

Here it is all tacked in place. Is that pipe big or what? |

You'll redo these nuts a bunch of times when you test fit. |

NOW we weld it up. Notice all the rotation marks from a sharpie pen. |

Old and new. The new system is a few pounds LIGHTER than the stock system! |

I painted it. |
| 57706 |
It's a stovepipe! Nope, it's a 2 1/2 inch catback! I didn't replace the heat shields. |
| 54970 |
A closeup. It's not stainless, but I can replace it 5 times for the same cost! |

Look!!! No ugly canister hanging down!!!! |
