bmwnet.jpg (15524 bytes)Every Miata owner needs a bit more storage space - especially in the earlier models without map pockets. Werner Cassel came up with the slick idea of using a part from his BMW on the Miata to add a storage net in the passenger's footwell! Works equally well on the M1 and the M2 Miatas (and we suppose it'd work fine on most other cars as well.)

Installation is a snap - you simply align the four retaining clips against the carpeting, then poke them through and clip the net into place! Now you have a spot for your maps, tour guides, a bottle of water - whatever. We're still wondering why no one thought of this long ago!

Ask your BMW dealer to get you the following parts:

  Part Number Qty. Price
Storage Net 51472261407 1 $36.23
Clips 51472263062 4 $1.40

For more info: check your local BMW dealer. (Hint to the Miata aftermarket folks: maybe you can get 'em for less!)

tm_cal.jpg (8978 bytes)Team Miata is working on a Miata calendar for the year 2000. The calendar will be of top quality, 4-color process, printed by a large commercial printing company - not a Kinko calendar. Besides the beautiful photos of Miatas - they also plan to include dates of Miata events, and other special days important to Miata enthusiasts. This is an excellent opportunity for local clubs to have a calendar listing many of their major local events of the year. In addition, although they already have many excellent photos - they are always looking for more. They are especially looking for the following types of photos: Miatas in the snow - At the beach - In groups - At the track. The calendar will go to print by August with delivery by the first part of November   in time for the Holiday gift giving season. The calendar will be available for $10 with pre-orders by July 1, $14 after.

Attention Clubs: Special pricing is available for you to purchase the calendars in bulk and resell them to your members as a fund raiser for your club. E-mail Team Miata for details

runlite.jpg (6616 bytes)For years it has been recognized that having your headlights on during the day added an extra margin of safety. In fact some studies show they reduce accidents by as much as 30 percent. Because of these findings, many new cars have daytime running lights as a standard feature. Now you can add this valuable safety feature to your Miata with the new Team Miata wiring kit (for US market Miatas only). Also, check with your insurance company - it may also entitle you to an insurance discount.

With the new Team Miata Running Lights wiring kit installed on your '90-'97 Miata, the running lights/headlights switch no longer controls the top front amber-colored running lights. Instead, they illuminate whenever the ignition is on. The side front running lights and the rear running lights still operate by the familiar switch. For most daytime driving purposes, you will not need to turn on or off any light switch, yet oncoming drivers can see your amber running lights (a.k.a. parking lights). No more dead batteries just because you forgot to switch off your running lights when
you stopped for lunch!

For $25 a set - it is an inexpensive safeguard for you and your Miata.

LightsHot.jpg (7480 bytes)Just about every new car now has a dome light that stays on for a several seconds after you close your door. At night, it gives you the time needed to find your key, put it in the ignition and go. No fumbling in the dark. However, somebody at Mazda forgot to add that one little essential feature to the Miata.

Now with Lights Up! from Team Miata, you can add this great feature yourself in just 10 minutes. Think of it, no more fumbling in the dark while you find your keys.  With Lights Up!, automotive interior light delay, the interior light in your Miata stays on 15 or 25 seconds (it's selectable)  AFTER you close your door. Time enough to get your keys, put your gloves on, put the key in the ignition and start your Miata. Just install the small Lights Up! module and forget it. Once installed you don't have to do anything, it does it all for you.  At $35 it is an inexpensive addition that Mazda forgot to include.

lic-brack.jpg (14286 bytes)Often, the first thing a new Miata owner does to their Miata is remove the front license plate. A Miata just doesn't look quite right with it. And to make matters worst the plate holder is located in just the right spot to put two permanent dimples, or worse, holes,  in your bumper if someone even gently backs into your Miata. So the solution is to remove the license plate RIGHT? WRONG!!!

Many states, including the Miata.net Headquarters home state of New Jersey, require the use of front license plates and are cracking down hard on those who don't have them. No front license
plate can mean a costly ticket. To solve the problem, the folks at Team Miata are now offering an ingenious little license plate bracket that not only relocates the plate out of harms way, but also folds down at speeds of 20 mph or greater.  The result is a front plate that not only meets the requirement for a front plate but also lies nearly flat when the car is moving and won't block cooling air flow!

So if you live in one of those wonderful areas which demands that you have a front tag, or even if you don't, but you want to have that great vanity plate displayed from the front without trashing your bumper, check out this new offering from Team Miata!

bigbrakes.gif (25491 bytes)High performance engine upgrades make your Miata go faster, but if you're going to be going faster, you also need to stop faster. Especially if you're going to be involved in competition. The Dealer Alternative "Big Brake Kit" will give you that ultimate stopping power.

Their new redesign features powder coated billet aluminum caliper carriers. 11" drilled & slotted, or just slotted Brembo rotors. Wilwood's best billet alloy calipers. The Big Brake kit will work with stock rear brakes, but Bill (Mr. Dealer Alternative) recommends upgrading rear pads to high performance competition pads such as Porterfields.

windprot.jpg (10345 bytes)From MM Marketing, the makers of the first window protectors - the ones designed to keep the plastic from scratching on the first generation Miatas -  a padded protector specially designed for the glass rear backlight on the '99 Miata is now available. More than simply a scratch protector, this is actually a pad, nearly an inch thick and covered in the same cloth used on premium grade car covers, that sandwiches between the glass and the top when lowered.

The padding effectively eliminates virtually any possibility of breakage due to impact on the glass. Now you can keep a storage bag sitting on the glass with the top down without a worry!

This just in from Racing Beat:

rb_brace.jpg (6065 bytes)Sway Bar Brace Kit

Developed to stiffen any 1990-99 Miata chassis, this assembly proves most beneficial when using any relatively strong aftermarket sway bar, including Racing Beat’s tubular bar. This kit both effectively minimizes chassis flex that reduces sway bar performance and eliminates possible cracking of the sway bar chassis mounts that results from repeated hard cornering.

We have heard from several Miata owners that have replaced broken sway bar chassis mounts after repeated hard driving using upgraded sway bars. Quite simply, the factory mount was not designed for the demanding loads that are being exerted during repeated hard corning that occurs during Solo, Autocross or spirited street driving.

Several years ago Racing Beat developed a Front Sway Bar Reinforcement Brace for the 1993 RX-7 that suffered this same problem. We found that we could adapt this part for the Miata by designing a brace that would: 1) Tie both left and right sway bar chassis mounts together, and 2) add additional support to the sway bar chassis mount. Using the mounting bolts and retaining nuts supplied in the kit, a support bar is placed into position and tightened against the frame rail. As the retaining nuts are being tightened against the support block, the sway bar mounting bolt is actually being forced outward against the sway bar chassis mount. (The above photo shows a close-up of the support bar in position.) This support provides a very simple and extremely effective way to load the mount and eliminate potential cracking and minimize movement.

Manufactured from hollow-core 1019 steel and utilizing laser-cut end flanges, this brace is finished with a rust-proof powdercoat finish. Installation is accomplished by simply removing the sway bar mounting bolts and inserting the brace and support bar.

tubular_sway_bar.jpg (5155 bytes)Front Tubular Sway Bar

Racing Beat introduces a new Front Tubular Sway Bar designed for the 1999 Miata. This 1-1/8-inch OD bar (3/16-inch ID wall) is designed to improve the handling characteristics of your Miata for use on the street and track. This sway bar includes our new Heavy Duty Sway Bar Mounting Bracket set.

Repeated road tests using this tubular sway bar have proven that this bar improves the handling by neutralizing some of the over-steer characteristics found on the stock ‘99 Miata. Typically, a tubular bar is larger in diameter than a solid bar of the same rigidity. Even though a tubular bar may be larger in diameter than a smaller solid bar, the rigidity of both bars can be the same, but the tubular bar has the benefit of weight savings. By design, the Racing Beat tubular bar is substantially more rigid than the stock 7/8-inch bar, but this bar weighs just 8.5lbs.

Contact Racing Beat for more information.

Remember how cool you thought it was the first time you turned the key on the driver's side door of a '99 Miata and the passenger's side unlocked automatically? Then, the next time when you tried to be chivalrous and open your spouse's door first, you realized it didn't automatically open your side and you thought "Hey, what gives??"

Aftermarket to the rescue! Our friends at Duetto Motors are now selling automatic lock solenoids which fit not only the '99 Miata, but pretty much any other car as well. They also have solenoids for the trunk lock so you no longer have to worry about scratching up your bumper to pop the trunk. And to top it all off, they have a remote keyless entry kit so you can control all these nifty little doodads using a handy dandy remote control!

According to Duetto, the trunk lock solenoid is a simple installation. The door actuators are a bit tougher and they recommend professional installation. Still, we think it's a worthwhile addition to any Miata!
