Moss Motors Shift Knobs

Matching rose gear shift knob and brake handle

[4/11/2007] Reviewed by: james winston

These two items can be bought together or separate. The finish is nice and the price is reasonable 40.00 for both.

The gear shift knob went on fine ..however it did not screw down as much as the stock one, leaving a small gap between th knob and the leather shift cover ...otherwise a fine addition for 20.00 ..However the brake handle is a different story and would not fit properly even with some inside modification and some outside pushing and pulling and the use of wd40 for help. I finally got it on only to bugger the end that the brake release button went through.

I like the gear shift knob very much, but cannot recommend the matching brake handle. I will have to destroy it to remove it. and i have emaile Moss about it ..so we will see what they want to do about it.

Moss Motors chrome, leather shift knob

Shift knob is chrome on the bottom and leather on the upper half. On top is a "M" script surrounded by allen screws. It comes with a delrin bushing and two chrome "collars" that screw on the bottom. It is held in place by a set screw on the side of the knob

Installation was very straight forward. I had to cut off the flared piece of the delrin bushing so I could use the "long" collar that screws on the bottom of the knob. Looks very nice and took under 15 minutes to install. Set screw holds knob securely in place so it doesn't turn around when you rip through the gears.

This replaced the factory Nardi knob on my 10 A.E. I love the feel and look even though it is very cold in the morning.

Shift knob is chrome with black leather insert, has "M" script on top with allen keys around top.

Nice product. Easy to install. Just take off old one, screw on plastic sleeve, place new shift knob and tighten an allen bolt to hold in place.

Would recommend it if you want to add some nice chrome to your interior. Do notice the coldness of the metal in the winter though.

Wood grain shift knob to compliment the wood steering wheel.

Installation was easy-a quick on-off. I do not like the feel, height or functioning of this knob. I bought the overpriced short shift kit and this knob. The shifter defeats the purpose of the short shift kit in that the kit actually shortens the throw by decreasing the height of the shift lever. This knob lengthens the lever to almost original heights. It does not feel good in the hand because there is a sharp ridge. it is very difficult to appreciate the short shift kit when you have this monster of a knob to maneuver through the gears. Not recommended

very disipointed with the finish of this product. It has only been in use for 3 months and the chrome is pealing off. I'll be going back to my Voodo knob.

Moss Motors leather/chrome shift knob with Miata "M" script in middle. Available in Black, Red, Blue, or Yellow leather.

Opened the box and put it on. Was out for a drive within a minute. The knob itself is very light-weight. I suppose this is a preference, but it is significantly lighter than the stock knob. Once installed, I would suggest the height at which it sits is comparable to the stock knob.

The knob is comfortable and slick looking too. After 3 knobs in a month, I think I'm ready to keep this one on a permanently.

Moss Motors leather/chrome shift knob with Miata "M" script in middle. Black, Red, Blue, or Yellow leather.

Despite all of the great reviews I read for Voodoo Knobs, I went with this Moss model based on how good the Moss looks. I did a preliminary installation to determine where the "M" would end up in relativity to myself while driving. I then torqued down on the set screw so that it would leave a mark in the nylon bushing. Next, I drilled out that location so that the set screw would engage the hole and not just the cylindrical bushing. By doing this, I sought to alleviate the tendency for the knob to rotate around in my hand while shifting. Even adding this step, Installation was extremely quick.

Looks great, feels great. I didn't realize how much of a difference a shifter handle would make. I realize that there's no real foundation to the following statement, but I actually shift "better" with this knob.

Moss shift knob, chrome with leather and M logo in the middle of shifter. Very well made and awsome look, you can get the leather in yellow, blue, red, and black. Product includes a delrin self tapping bushing for perfect fit.

Once I installed it I went for a test drive, feels just like a voodoo, but way cooler look in my opinion. Just makes you want to rip through the gears....Love it.

Moss wood grain shift knob and brake handle

Easily removed and installed

My one compliant I order both pieces at same time, same day, same order. However, upon delivery the shift knob was a brilliant cherry colour whilst the brake handle was a blonde walnut. Moss was very agreeable for my returning and has assured me that they will give it their best effort to attempt to get the two items close in colour. I didn't expect them to match exactly...but I did expect them to be at least the same hue or wood style. A little disappointing and now I have to deal with mailing back and forth, etc. Any body out there with a better suggestion?

Mail order wooden shift knob and brake lever.

I recently bought a 95 Miata - white with black leather interior. Deciding that the interior was too stark, I looked through the product reviews here on miata.net and chose the Moss wood gear shift knob and brake handle. I was pleasantly surprised at how rich and glossy the finish is. Installation was easy - unscrew old knob. The brake handle needed some twisting to ease it off but in the end, my once stark black interior now has a warm "heart". I'm in LA so ground UPS from Moss' Goleta, CA location was a speedy 1 day delivery.

I was quite suprised by the finish on these two items. VERY NICE indeed. Both high gloss with nice wood grain. Yes,the knob is taller than the OEM, but I find it better for shifting since the gears seem to fall into place better with the taller knob.

It feels good in your hands but there is more vibration than the OEM since it is lighter in weight, but again you can feel the gears better. The E-Brake handle was easy to install as per another reveiwer. Just heat the old handle with a hair dryer then twist gently.

I like the combo, it looks good and works well with car. I would recommend this product if your looking to add a wood shifter/hand brake look to your car. The combo was not that expensive so if you get tired of it no big deal. Have fun!!

Moss Motors Wood Shift knob (and wood parking brake handle)

Nice knob, a little tall, but I've never missed a shift yet (as I did often with Voodoo knob)

Overall, I must say that this knob takes a few shifts to get used to. But after a few days with the product, I've noticed that I can't take my hand off of the knob! Great feel and very positive shifting can be expected from the knob. Like the other review for this product, it seemed a bit tall at first, taller than stock. I had a Voodoo shift knob on before and while it is a nice knob, I consistently missed the 2-3 shift in spirited driving, not to mention its cold in the winter and HOT in the summer. Now, I rest my arm more on the center console storage bin and shifts come very naturally and quickly. It also has a classic feel to it that I very much enjoy.

The wood parking brake handle is a little different. If you have the stock plastic handbrake boot, you should consider getting a leather one. I installed the parking brake handle just after I put on the shift knob, and there is a noticeable gap between the handle and the naff plastic boot.

Light weight, low cost ($25), finished wood

At first I was disappointed. It was taller that I expected and it felt very light weight. It almost felt like plastic. Since I mail ordered the darn thing I had to install it. No problems here. I decided to give it a few days on the road before I rejected it. I'm sure glad that I did. I love the feel. It looks great too.

It may be light weight, but it is real wood. In any case, I'm going to purchase the matching brake handle to finish off the look.
